Open Pail Question

I am changing to using an open pail do I need to use a pail liner or is the pail liner just simply to help move dipes more easily to the washer?

It helps prevent your pail from developing the stink if its plastic

And it makes it so that you don't have to thoroughly clean out the pail everytime you do laundry

And it's easier to wash a liner than the actual pail each time you wash.
