Toddler shoe question to get this board hoppin'

Alex doesn't wear shoes so much (what can I say, we live in Monroe - kidding, kidding). The pair of sandals he mainly wears is a size 6. They seem to fit, but are definitely getting snug.

Should I even bother starting to buy some shoes now, for the fall, and get a size 7? I have no idea what size will fit, even in a month or so. Also, I'm pretty sure he's gonna need a wide shoe size. Where do I get good kids shoes that will actually fit, that aren't going to kill the budget?

He had the most awesome pair of Puma shoes, that fit him for all about 2 weeks, so sad. But I'm not about to keep dropping $40 for his shoes.

  • We buy DD's good shoes at the Stride Rite outlet in Monroe.  Great prices for really good shoes.  I try to buy 1/2 size larger than what she needs at that moment, so she can grow into, rather than out of, them.  I have also found good deals at Famous Footwear.  They have their buy one get one half off sale right now.  That works well for stocking a pair of play shoes, and a pair of nicer shoes.

  • We are very tight when it comes to shoes since they wear them for about a month or two. We got a nice pair of gym shoes at Payless and all the others we get are from Once upon a child. You can get great deals there and they have every style under the sun. Best of all you dont pay a fortune for them.

  • We typically buy the size above what they are.  They will at some point be in that size anyway, LOL!  I do not buy sandals early though.

  • Leah's feet seem to grow sporadically. Last season, she wore a size 4 for almost a year, and then this year, she's already outgrown the shoes I bought her in June, and I bought those on the large side. I usually buy her a nice pair about a 1/2 size larger, like sneakers from the Stride Rite outlet or Nikes, and then get her cheap shoes to hold up for other events, like black Mary Janes or cowboy boots from Target. She wears the sneakers as the mainstay shoes and the cheapies as needed.
