Don't know what think about appointment today

I have been really uncomfortable the last few days. I went in for my weekly appointment today. Good news: babies are measuring 6 pounds a piece. Bad news: my blood pressure went from 107/60 last week to 137/80 today. Not sure what to think of that. Also, I went from 1 cm last week to 3cm today. I really don't know what to think. Part of me gets excited thinking I may deliver sometime soon. The other part of me worries about the bp.

Re: Don't know what think about appointment today

  • Don't worry too much but it could be a sign of some upcoming action :)! Mine was low the entire pregnancy and went up the week before I delivered...I also started to swell up that week (gained 5 lbs in a week at the end)....sooooo make sure your bag is packed :) and call your OB if you feel weird at all. GL!
  • I used to be on pills for HBP, but I went off of them when I got pregnant. Mine was 130/80 a couple of weeks ago and they said "looks good!". From what I understand, 120/80 is good, so 137/80 isn't too far off. The lower number is also the most important. I wouldn't be worried about your BP, especially if the doctor wasn't concerned. Worrying can also raise it, so try to relax :) Good luck!

  • Is your doctor worried about your BP?  If not, then don't worry!

If I recall...doesn't BP go up in third tri, particuarly at the end?  I remember mine going up around 34 weeks.

  • The first time my BP was elevated was at my 37w appointment.  We decided to move my c/s up a week (I delivered 3 days later).  Just be prepared - at that point my doctor felt like we were just waiting for something bad to happen.  Good luck!

  • I'm with Amanda, if your doctor isn't worried about it, try not to worry about it at all.  Believe me, if they are at all concerned about your blood pressure, they will send you to the hospital for monitoring or make you do a 24 hour urine test.  If they didn't send you for either then it sounds like things are ok for the moment.  I agree with one PP though, if you don't feel right or notice a sudden increase in swelling, play it safe and call your OB.

  • I asked the nurse at my appointment last week about blood pressure numbers (mine have always been low), and she said that they don't tend to worry unless the bottom number is above 90 - and I can't remember what she said for the top number...it might have been over 140.

  • I was hitting 160/110 and they didn't freak. No worries momma but I bet you see some action soon!

  • I am with pp that you are getting ready to deliver.  I was with you, steady 107/60 (my resting pulse was crazy during pregnancy from 55 (prepreg) to 70).  The last two weeks of my pregnancy my BP started to elevate.  I also dropped about 4-6lbs which is strange because I was swollen from my hips to my knees at this time too.  My MFM and OB both agreed that my body was prepping and since my BP had been normal the entire pregnancy they were not concerned about pre-e.
