Do your LOs sleep with noise machines (fans, white noise, etc.)? If so, is it annoying to hear the toggle of the noise in the different rooms every 10 seconds at night? We use a noise machine, which is just a constant noise right now, but when we get a new monitor to toggle between rooms, I can see how this would be annoying.
Re: Question about monitors with 2 cameras that toggle
The monitor we have goes into sleep mode if it doesn't hear anything for a few minutes. You can still see the pictures toggling back and forth, but it's silent. Then if it detects a sudden noise not like the white noise, it clicks back on. I get startled awake by that, but usually it's because the baby is actually making a noise, so I can't blame the monitor!
The only issue I have is, it doesn't come on when my toddler is talking quietly (because he's not louder than the white noise). Then again, maybe I would miss some of that as well if he's that quiet.
Which one do you have? I have been looking into the Summer Slim and Secure and the Summer BabyTouch.
I didn't go with any of the Summer versions. I can't remember what my issue was with all of them, but I researched forever, and every single monitor seemed to have something I didn't like about it. So I went with a small company that has incredible customer service because I was certain that if I wanted to return it, there would be no questions asked. And their customer service is quite good - I had to email them a couple of times.
I got the Home Sentry II from safebabyshop.com.
We have the Summer Infant babyTouch. I love love love it! We upgraded from the Summer Day&Night, and it's such a huge difference in quality. Both boys have noise makers, and the change between the two rooms is noticeable. With DS2, we also have the Angelcare monitor, and we have that one with sound too so we can constantly hear him. That monitor helps with the change in noise from the two rooms. You can also try to get the two sound machines to the same volume to try to help with that. We've had a hard time with that, even with the exact same model of sound machines. Considering that, the one the PP linked is interesting. I had never heard of those before and would consider them if we were shopping now.
With the babyTouch, the screen is huge. The quality of the video isn't HD quality or anything though. It is grainy, probably because the picture is so big. But, I can see the boys very well even if it's sometimes grainy (it seems worse in the bright light than with the night vision). The cameras pan and zoom, and I love that. We can see both of their whole rooms which will be nice when they're no longer in cribs. I will zoom in on their bellies and can easily see them breathing, even when they're sleeping on their tummies in a deep sleep. With DS2's, the camera gets stuck if you pan it all the way to the top, and you have to go in there and push it back down for the controls to work with it again. I need to call Summer Infant about that.
The first camera comes with a battery pack which is nice for if the power goes out or for traveling, but the additional cameras do not which is disappointing.
Let me know if you have any other questions about it. We're very happy with it.
BFP with no treatment!
When it was just DD we had an audio-only monitor because I thought video monitors were a waste of money. Then when DS came along I couldn't find a set-up that would let me hear them both so I started looking into video monitors with multiple cameras. We have this video monitor and I love it. I have a camera in each room and an extra camera that usually stays in the playroom upstairs. I can add another camera but I haven't seen a need for it yet.
To answer your question - they both have white noise machines in their rooms and yes, the noise drives me NUTS when I set the monitor to scan between the two rooms. I thought about putting a monitor in between their rooms (right across the hall from each other) but then I couldn't really hear either of them until they started screaming. I tried setting it to just come on if there's a noise but I didn't like that either. What I wound up doing is keeping DD's old monitor (audio only) in her room like it's always been, and I keep the video on DS. I have it set to where the screen turns off after 15 seconds but I keep the volume on all the time. If I hear her I can just push a button and see what she's doing. It may not be the best solution but it's working for us.
