Hi all -
I would like to start washing the baby clothes and I'd like to know what detergents everyone uses and why the like the brand they use.
My baby isn't due for awhile, but I had an incident with a damn turkey crashing through the nursery window and I have to wash all the turkey debris (glass, blood, feathers, etc) off of the clothes (and it had to be washed before use anyway).
And while we're talking: best brands of clothes (ie, doesn't fade or pull, last a long time/durable, etc).
Thanks!

we use soap nuts and vinegar in a downy ball for fabric softener.
bacout for most stains, shout for stains that bacout can't handle.
Ok the turkey bit kind of made me laugh out loud but that's the city girl in me. I'm sure it was a PITA for you, that totally sucks.
I just use the generic Target brand free and clear stuff, and use it on all our clothes as well. it's really mild. And then once you are trying to wash spit up and poop out of everything, baby Oxyclean is your best friend. Get it in the baby section at Target by the baby shampoo and I throw a scoop in with every load.
As far as clothes that hold up best, I really like Carters and Childrens Place stuff. But we get a lot of hand me downs so beggars can't be choosers. They grow so fast still even at my kids age, I feel like they don't get to wear stuff enough to wear it out:(

I use Charlie's Soap. https://www.charliesoap.com/
It's awesome. It's incredibly inexpensive (check out the 4 gallon bucket on Amazon) and it cleans really well - you could even use it for cloth diapers, so it could be good for turkey goo too. We don't cloth diaper, but we bought the 4 gallon bucket a year ago and aren't even halfway through it.
You can get it locally at Peapods. Otherwise you can order it online.

Use the same laundry detergent you use for your own clothes! Why make more laundry for youself, but also, your baby is going to be snuggling up against you and whatever detergent you use on your own clothes. I have super sensitive skin so for me it's a non issue because knowing that I react to many "dye free" and "natural" type detergents, it's not worth the extra work to have to find something that I won't react to just for baby (It's super hard for me to find detergent in the first place, but to have to divide it all out and do extra loads of laundry, just not worth it)..
As for clothes, most kids clothes hold up really well until they're old enough to do a running slider on the pavement (3-4yrs).. The Gerber Brand was great in the really young phase for Onesies and Sleep 'n Play outfits... I also never had any issues with fading when it came to DD's clothes..
It was terrible! A wild turkey crashed through the nursery window and got feathers, pee, poop and blood everywhere, not to mention the explosion of glass that happened after it crashed in.
