I like them to nap in a semi dark room so they know its nap time and sleep better..but my girls suck at taking day naps so light or dark never matters for them. Sometimes they sleep and sometimes they dont lol. I honestly think sometimes they sleep better during the day in a lighter room.
We've always had regular blinds in the girls' room, not room darkening or anything. We put them down to nap in whatever light mother nature has to offer that day. It's never been an issue for us.

When mine were babies they took naps in the pack n play on the first floor, with the television on, and me doing what ever I needed to do. They can now sleep through anything
For the first few months my girls napped in the living room (daylight)... I have started putting them in their darkened nursery for naps now (just with blinds drawn)... doesn't seem to make a difference for them.

Mine sleep in a dark room. We have room darkening shades. It's worked well for us so far.
