I'm thinking we should just grit our teeth and deal with two single strollers for the first couple months and then buy a double umbrella stroller to save cash. As is, we mostly use the umbrella stroller for our 18 month old.
Thoughts?
My Signature won't work! I am a proud mommy of two (1&3) and starting an adventure to help a family having a baby through surrogacy.

There is no harm in waiting till you have 2 to figure it out. I would think that if you were a SAHM, it would be more of a necessity so you could get out with 2 kids on your own during the days - but then again, I am a working mom, and its definitely a necessity for me.
In nice weather, we use it every day. I take my kids (1 and almost 3) on a walk in the evening to the park (and to get me some exercise).
i'm still waiting for LO #2 to arrive but i do think i will need one eventually! i just can't decide on which on to get, so if i don't figure it out before the baby arrives i will get one shortly after. I'm thinking of getting a double umbrella that has a recline option or a sit n stand.
I bought a double stroller for $20 at a garage sale. Most of the time the older one walks (although she's a bit older) and I carry the younger one in my Ergo. Sometimes I'll bring our one stroller and they can take turns.
I only got the double stroller for when we go places that there is a lot of walking for a long time and DH isn't with me. Like the Zoo. I am glad I didn't buy a brand new one though. I think it would have been a waste for me.
i agree that it is a need, but is it a NEED to buy both a double infant/toddler stroller and a double umbrella? Im tihnking if we can get by for the first six months or so I could save hundreds.

I HATE double strollers. Big, bulky and heavy...and kids grow out of them so fast. DS would refuse to sit in a stroller at the age he is at right now. He usually walks very nicely with us or jumps on his sidekick (skateboard) that is attached to the stroller we use. When #3 comes...DS will do what he is doing, we will keep DD in the stroller and just wear the third baby until she is too heavy...then DD will use the sidekick and DS will be even older and more independent...and the youngest with me in the stroller.
My kids are 15.5 months apart. I think a double is a need.
Ditto this.
The first 2-3 months, we mostly used a single and I wore DD. When she got bigger, we used the double.
I now think the double is even more important now that they are both mobile. I use it to get them in and out of stores, and when we go on walks. DS likes to walk himself, but he dawdles along, gets distracted by rocks, etc. When we have nowhere to be, that is fine, but when we are going somewhere, it is nice to put them both in the stroller and go!
I use my double stroller all the time, especially now that they're a little bigger (7 months and 22 months). It is definitely a necessity for me. DS never really took to the Moby.

We have a City Mini. We held off on getting the infant seat adapter and realized we didn't need it. The seat lays flat and at only 2 weeks old DD was perfectly fine as we strolled up and down the boardwalk while on a mini vacation. The seat will last a long time. Each side can hold 50lbs. Both of my children are 97+ percentile, but even DS is only ~33lbs and has lots of room to grow in the BJCM.
I use my double almost every day(going on 7 months). Taking the boys to the park and I run everyday to get some exercise with the boys so I would not be able to live without mine. I forsee me using it until the kids are around 4 years of age. Going to the zoo, museums or anywhere they will get tired so I went all out and bought one that will last, can be used as a jogger and will fit through a single door. Love this stroller but its expensive, Bumbleride Indi Twin.
Depends on your needs. For me it was absolutely a must. I am a SAHM in a huge city and we walk or take public transportation EVERYWHERE. I use my double stroller at least once a day.
I don't know what I would do without my double. I have a Phil & Ted Sport and I LOVE it. It can be a single or a double, it's not heavy or bulky, and it folds up smaller than my Chicco did!
I wasn't sure at first either, so I didn't buy it until DD was about 5 months old. This worked out well because DD was a pretty fussy baby and liked to be held non stop, so I would use the Chicco stroller for DS and carry DD in the Ergo until we got the double. I have absolutely no regrets!
