Where to live? Relocating from Seattle.

We just found out DH will be working in Whiting, In for the next 12 months. We have 2 weeks to pack up, try and find someone to rent our house and move! We have a DD who is 18 months with another on the way. We would like to live in a family friendly area, 3 bedrooms (house or townhouse) for around 1800 a month. Can anyone recommend good neighborhoods/areas for us to live? Should we live near Chicago or in Northwest Indiana? Thanks so much for the help!!!

Northwest IN would definitely be cheaper! I don't know what the commute would be like from the South side to Whiting to offer any help. I can't imagine it would be worth the commute to live on the north side of the city and drive to IN. Hopefully someone else here can help. GL with your move!

Try one of the Chicago SW suburbs- Orland, Oak Forest, Tinley Park, Mokena, etc. His commute will only be about 20-30 minutes from there.

I live in Steger, right across the border from IN, and it's not bad. Crete is nice, as is Crown Point, IN. Good luck!

My friend actually lives in Whiting, IN and loves it. Cute little town. If you're interested in IL, I agree with checking out the SW Burbs...Oak Lawn, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Palos Park or Palos Heights.
