Cloth Diapering

NCDR: started sign language lessons today

It was so fun, and the lady came to our house.  She charged us less than half of her normal amount, too...summer discount!

  • I have really enjoyed watching my DS starting to use signs. He's picking up one every day or two now. It's amazing to watch him delight in communicating!

  • We taught DS1 a few signs, and we loved it...instead of him screaming for us to open a cupboard door he would sign "help"!!

  • omg. duh. I am a sign language interpreter, and never thought about teaching over the summer! I wonder if I could start something for the fall.
  • I interpret ASL too and I never thought to teach it to others.
I know it's something I plan on doing for my kids though.

  • It's so easy to teach basic signs (milk, eat, more, all done, etc), and it saves so much howling and whining. Glad you're enjoying it.

  • That's awesome! I signed with a little boy I used to nanny (ish) for- it was so rewarding! I cannot wait to work on it with LO! Glad you had a positive experience!

  • We've just started with DS! I took ASL in high school and college and think it's such an awesome tool for babies.

My nephew (who is almost 3) still uses a few signs here and there!

With DS we are just starting out with milk, more and hungry.

  • The lady we had isn't an interpreter...she is completely deaf but can read lips.  I also already know the alphabet & a few signs, so that helped us communicate.  I guess I already knew that it would be good for DS, but I was just surprised by how much I truly enjoyed learning the new signs.  I had a blast!

  • What are everyone's favorite signs?  The only one DS knows well right now is "milk," though I'm trying to be more consistent about using "wet."  I know "more" is a good one, and I'll add "help" to the list.  What else do you use?

OMG duh.  I can start teaching him manners before he can talk.  Awesome, thanks!

  • We've been teaching BB, too.  She's up to about 30 signs that she uses on a regular basis.  It's AMAZING how quickly they learn!

  • I can't edit to add since I c&p from excel.

She doesn't use all of those all of the time (like snow obv) but there's her list.

We also practice when we read books.  I'll keep an eye out for items in the picture that she knows the signs for and I'll ask her about them.
