Running with the jogging stroller ???

I just started running, literally 3 weeks ago.  I usually run after the kids go to bed and DH stays with them or we all run together and DH pushes the stroller and I take the dog. DH is back to traveling so I have to figure out how to run with the double BOB and the dog.  My dog is very well trained and goes for a walk or run daily (not taking her isn't really an option since she needs the exercise and I would feel terrible going without her).  I have figured out how to walk with the double stroller and the dog but running is a lot harder for me.  I just get nervous about running with all of them because between the 70 lb dog and the weight of the stroller and both kids I'm easily out weighted by a lot and need to be in control.

When you run with a stroller do you just push with one hand so the other is free to swing? Do you switch arms? If your stroller has a wrist strap do you use that?  When I'm walking I push the stroller with both hands and the leash is in my left hand as well because the dog is trained to walk/run on our left side.  I'm just trying to figure out the logistics of this and would appreciate input as to how you do it.

  • I would consider a hands-free jogging leash for your dog so you don't have so much juggling to do.  There are lots of them on all different sites - just google and see which ones sound best.  You'll also be using all your weight to hold the leash instead of just your hand/arm (and be less likely to be pulled off balance).

  • i run with both hands on the stroller. i find if i only use one hand, that wrist ends up getting sore.  i guess i have gotten accustomed to not pumping/swinging my arms while i jog!

i don't know anything about the dog, but i like the idea of the hands-free leash.  i think you are best to have both hands on the stroller for the best control.

  • There is no way I would brave that! I hate jogging with the stroller, but people do it all the time.  I've done it switching off arms to swing and that works OK. Now, adding a dog to the mix is a whole other deal!
