Pottery Barn Mobile: Didn't expect that...

In May, I ordered the Mobile I wanted for the crib.  It was on back order until August.  Ok, no big deal.

On Saturday, I was at Pottery Barn and saw this thing called the "Mobile Arm" so I asked the clerk and she said the mobiles don't include the crib attachment and I would need this. Ok, no big deal but annoyed I'm getting nickled and dimed.

But here's what I really didn't expect....  It doesn't work with my crib and looks awful.

Apparently, this mobile arm is supposed to attach to the crib between the slats.  The slats are about 1/4" thick.  The top of the crib (Thing headboard of a bed) is about 2 inches.  So the arm attaches angled back away from the crib.  It looks completely off.

Anyway, I decided to cancel the mobile and take back the arm.

Sigh....

I'm wondering if this will be the same with any mobile, or just this Pottery Barn version.

Any thoughts?

eek! I bought a mobile from pottery barn kids and it had the arm included, THEY told me it wasnt included and it was so I had a separate arm and the arm that it was included with the mobile...it was really annoying that I had to return the arm THEY told me didnt come with it...ugh...

We got the Pottery Barn mobile because the arm fit differently than other mobiles. It was super annoying that they sold the pieces separately and it's not clearly labeled on the mobile but it matches our crib perfectly so I went ahead I bit the bullet. I bet that almost any other brand of mobile will work with your crib.

I sure hope so.  Thanks.  What a pain in the a$$.  Sheesh.

i am going to let you in on a secret.......LO isn't going to notice the mobile until around the time that you are going to have to take it down (once LO starts sitting and you have to lower the crib) because they will reach for it and it is going to be a hazard. the mobile is more for the mom than it is for LO, just like the bumpers and baby quilts that you will never use.

That is why I didnt do a mobile with DD because I couldnt find an arm that would fit with her crib. 

For DD#2 I am ordering this - https://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/crystal-dream-catchers/?lineid=5&cm_src=E:CLEARANCE and I am going to place it somewhere near the crib from the ceiling.

I'd return it and get a crib soother.  My son loved the one I linked.  Although it's yet another thing to get batteries for, it's completely worth it (IMO).

Thanks for the heads up, now I'll have to go check the PB mobile that I bought to see what it came with, no one said anything at the store. (Although we don't have the crib yet, so I'll have to wait and see if it'll fit.)

Thanks everyone.  As I was struggling with the mobile arm I started thinking about it's necessity and why it was there, yadda yadda.  The decision to return it based on the thought that it's a waste and that I just don't like it.

My BFF told me about the soother and I think I might go with the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium (She has it).  It's remote controlled.

E loved his mobile but the music didn't last long enough so I much preferred our FP Rainforest crib soother.

Mine came from there and included everything.  However, a lot of the reviews I read beforehand mentioned needing extra parts or it not fitting on certain cribs.  It sounds like they are not very consistent!

I was just looking at that one last night as I was updating my registries.  The reviews are terrible for that specific soother, and say that it breaks repeatedly and they've had to return it many times.  Did yours work well?

I love the idea of this one, since it goes with our general fish theme.

this is the one we have!  DD loved it and then we graduated to the seahorse--DD can't sleep without it.

I love the idea of this one, since it goes with our general fish theme.

I just looked at mine, and it is the one we have.  When I got it (Christmas 08) it was the only aquatic one- FP was deep in the jungle/rainforest theme. There were only 2 or 3 options total.  I haven't had any issues with it (although I just got it out of the box last week and haven't put batteries in it to test it).  When the batteries began to die, sometimes the movement part would stop, but fresh batteries always solved the problem.  We had it in his crib for at least 8/9 months, if not longer (can't remember exactly when we took it out).

I just read some of the bad reviews, and we didn't have this experience.  I liked that there were tons of songs, and not all the same traditional ones every soothing toy plays.  I also like the phase down with volume and lights.  

I guess no matter what you get, make sure you keep all the packaging and receipt so you can make easy returns.

It must be out of production by FP because because I was only able to find it on Amazon and it is $100+.  I said WTH and bought it.  I've already spent so much money on this kid but she's the first and mommy happens to have saved a good bit for all of this.    Since I'm taking back the mobile arm AND cancelled the mobile itself...  it's not like I'm paying much more for this item.
