Postpartum Depression

Anyone taking Celexa & breastfeeding?

I'm currently on 10mg of Lexapro but with my DH's new insurance, the company doesn't want to pay for it & suggested Prozac or Celexa.  I still want to BF for the next 2 months before weaning my DD but don't know if it's safe.  I have a call in to the lactation consultant medication desk but won't hear back until tomorrow at the earliest.  Thankfully, I have samples of Lexapro that will get me through for a few weeks.  I may be able to stay on that until she's weaned then switch.

Re: Anyone taking Celexa & breastfeeding?

  • i take the generic of celexa and am breastfeeding without a problem.  i'm currently taking 10mg/day, though i think i need to increase since i'm experiencing some ppd.

    hope that helps

  • I was just prescribed it today, but I've heard there are better options even though the psychiatrist didn't think so. I'm checking with LO's pediatrician before I start taking it. I've taken it in the past and did like it though.
