Hi ladies. I am pregnant with my fourth baby and I really want to breast feed this time as I did not with my other three. I have been reading up on the topic as I have absolutely no experience. There are ALOT of different pumps out there! Manual and automatic and one breast or two! I am feeling overwhelmed. I heard some hurt more than others and the price range is hugely different! Can someone please tell me which pump is the best? I know each woman is probably different but some opinions from those whove been there would really help to maybe narrow it down for me. TIA
Re: Which breastpump?
I am not a pumping/pump expert by any means. I have a medela manual and the ameda purely yours double electric and both are wonderful IMO.
It really depends on what you will be using the pump for. If you plan to pump on a daily basis while working you should have a double electric. Ocassional use you can get a single electric or manual.
I use my manual late at night when DS sleeps longer stretchs to relieve some engorgement. It is nice to have the manual because it is really simple small and silent. I use my double electric after my first morning feeding every morning to build a freezer stash. I also use it when I am away from DS for a feeding. I am not returning to work until DS is 7 months old. At that point I will use the double electric to pump at work.
I'm a FTM and only have experience with one pump, but I love it. I have the ameda purely yours, and I got it because it is a good pump and a closed system. I got just the pump on amazon for $150, which is considerably cheaper than the pump that comes with the bag, cooler, etc. It's a powerful pump, and I pump while at work 3days/wk. It has worked well for me so far.
I decided against a medela because it is an open system and people on here have had issues with mold growing inside. Plus, a closed system has some resale value.
I have the Medela PISA. It's double electric and I'm very happy with it. I use it to pump 4 times a day. I'm already at work, so DD bottle feeds expressed milk during the day/evening and I nurse her over night. This pump works for me because I, personally, get plenty of milk with it, and I can use it hands free.
Also, I didn't get my pump until 2 weeks PP. That gave me enough time to make sure I had a good supply, establish a latch, and figure out how much I wanted to use it.
