Silent Reflux

I thought he was just getting a cold. He was congested and started coughing last night. So we took him to the doctor to just make sure he was ok. Well it was all in his throat. So she thinks its silent reflux.. or reflux minus the throwing up :( My poor baby :( He's getting acid up and then down re esophagus... now wonder he's been so cranky and clingy.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

Re: Silent Reflux

  • That's the primary reason our pedi and the pediatric gastroenterologist told us they don't prescribe any medication for reflux babies. They said when on the medicine babies still reflux it just becomes primarily silent reflux. It was really rough to listen to at first but we've gotten used to it, well minus the gasping. I doubt we'll ever get used to that. He does both silent reflux and regular reflux. One thing we do have to do is suction his nose nightly. He refluxes and it ends up in his nasal cavity so he always gets snot and stuff that has to be suctioned out. He now LOVES to have saline and the suction bulb.

Hopefully your LO gets better soon!!

I can't imagine my little guy not being on his medication.  He was in constant pain from his reflux, screaming all the time...the meds made him a completely different baby.  I know he still has reflux (we have lots of puke to prove it!) but the medication took away the pain.

  • Landon didn't have the typical throwing up, but he did spit up LOTS and cry all the time. The reflux is SO much better with zantac.

This exactly! Thank God for Zantac or else DS would always be in pain. We still get avlot of coughing and congestion but at least it doesn't bother him anymore.
