if you are flying on Southwest Airlines, you need a birth certificate. TSA didn't ask for anything from me for DS.
I can't answer the BM question. I do know that they didn't even flinch at the bottle in my diaper bag as it went through the xray machine. no one searched/opened/asked about it.
Baby Boy Born 3.15.11. 8lb 9oz, 21.75in.
6 month stats: 20lb 11oz (92%tile), 30.12in.(100%tile - who knew it went over 99th? Which means 100% of other 6 month olds are shorter than mine!)
I had to take my bottle of milk out my diaper bag at security and declare it since it was more than 3 oz. They asked if they could examine it without opening it. However, due to the shape of the bottle, they said they weren't able to examine it properly, and asked me to open it for them. They waved some sort of strip over the open bottle (looked like a litmus test), and then said I was good to go. I found it helpful to review the rules regarding breastmilk and formula on the TSA website before I traveled, just so I was prepared.
Children under 18 do not need any form of id at all. If it is a lap child and looks close to 2 they may require a birth certificate to prove age. A birth certificate proves nothing but age, since there is no photo on there, so it isn't technically a form of id.
