TTC After a Loss

Clomid - Insurance cost?

We are about to ttc yay! Finally! They will be putting me on clomid and we were thinking about switching my insurance. I was wondering what the cost of clomid is where  you live. The insurance I am on I have to pay 20% of all the charges.

Thanks ladies hope everyone is having a wonderful today.

Re: Clomid - Insurance cost?

  • Clomid is not covered on my insurance but clomiphene (generic is).  For a 30 day supply (which you only need a 5 day supply) it costs $10.

Out of curiosity, since you said you're just starting to TTC again, why the clomid so soon?

ETA:  I live in Ohio and have Medical Mutual Insurance.  Also, my insurance has a website that you can 'price' procedures, doctors AND medicine Smile  Double check to see if your insurance does the same!

ETAA:  Sorry I just realized I was a little confusing... generic clomid costs $10 for a 30 day supply, since I only need a 5 day supply, I'm guessing it'll be about $1.66 for 5, 50mg pills

    Thanks so much!!!

My RE wants me to go on clomid because even though I do ovulate on my ovulation is not a strong one and I do not create a lot of progesterone so they want me to use clomid to increase my ovulation.I hope that makes sense.

Thanks I just wanted to make sure clomid was reasonable.

  • That makes complete sense, that's why my doctor is suggesting it for me as well.  Of course you know the prices will vary, but the overall cost of generic clomid (clomiphene) is cheap w/o insurance.

P.S.  Sorry to hijack your post but I wanted to AW my famous-ness!

  • I paid $10 for 10 pills. BUT the cost before insurance was only $18. It is a generic.

  • I had the generic version of clomid and it cost me $10 for the 5-day supply.  If I chose to have the brand name, I would have paid $35.  But this is the may my insurance plan works.  They tier the prescriptions.

  • I think for me Clomid, even in generic form, was $60 for five pills.  We have BC/BS of Massachusetts (Justin's employer is headquartered in MA, but we live in KS).  But I think we have someone else for prescriptions.  I've heard Wal-Mart usually has it cheapest at $25.  I've heard that from people in my area and on the bump.

  • I actually have no idea how much my insurance pays, if anything {is that bad?}... 100mg for me was about $40.

  • Does the Walmart cheapie list vary by location? In NY it's $9 for a five day supply of generic clomid. My insurance would have charged $10 for it. We often get our meds at Walmart because they're cheaper. DH is on a $4 Walmart med, which if we went through our insurance, would also be $10/mo. if you have a store that does bargain scrips, I'd call and check it out. Good luck!
