Can someone explain all of the SS rules in case I want to join in September? I know you bought gifts, but how many? Price range? Etc?
There really aren't rules. You spend however much your budget allows you to spend. There was a post awhile back about this and I think most people said they were sending out around 3 packages, but some people sent one a week, and I think someone said they were sending only 1 at the end of the month.
On Elfster, the site we use to set it up, there is a way to ask your SS what she likes, hobbies, etc. and you can also "wish" for things to give your SS an idea of what you need/want.

It doesn't really matter where you are, Canada or here. (Or Bum F*** Egypt. ) You sign up and let your SS decide how many packages to send out. Mine was in FL, and I'm in CA. If you're farther, you might just get one or two big packages instead of several small somethings for your SS to save on shipping.
