Aspirin ok'd by MD, now reading contradicting information

I'm 24 DPO, blood work and beta confirms PG.  When I saw my MD almost 2 weeks ago, I asked what I could take if I had a migraine.  He said if I absolutely had to have something he recommeneded an 81mg aspiring.  I knew Tylenol was safe and I asked why not Tylenol.  He said because of the recall from Tylenol made in China and how Tylenol can cause liver damage.  The most I would ever take is 4 500mg capsules in a 24 hour period and I don't take them but a few times every few weeks.  Last week I took 3 baby aspirin over the course of severl days.  I was going to take one tonight but after reading up the internet I may forgo the aspirin.  Anyone else's doctor tell them yes to aspirin and no to tylenol?

  • Sorry, no. My doc says yes to Tylenol.
  • Well at least what I have read says there is likely no damage done this early by taking the aspirin.

  • The recall for Tylenol was due to a funky odor.

I'd stick with the Tylenol for a really bad headache!

  • You can also get generic tylenol and then you don't have to worry about the recalls.

  • Generally speaking, taking one baby aspirin a day will not hurt you. Many women take it daily, especially if they have a history of recurrent loss.

My Dr told me I could take ibuprofen until certain week because I was having horrible migraines. I don't remember what week it was but it was somewhere around the end of the 2nd trimester. I didn't want to take anything stronger then Tylenol so I didn't ask why it was okay. Maybe ask your doctor why it is safe and if there is a point when it wouldn't be.

  • Im 5 weeks and 2 days, just went to the doctor yesterday and found out i am prego!!  he told me tylenol only, not advil, no graval or anything... hope thats helpful.l
  • I was told Tylenol only.  Also on the recall there are certain lot numbers to look for (which you can find on Tylenol's website) and also they had  "an unusual moldy, musty, or mildew-like odor".  If your MD said you could take asprin I'm sure its okay.   (On a side note my OBs office had an advisory about the recall taped next to the sign in sheet with the lot numbers.  So they did know about it.)

  • I HAVE to take a lose dose asprin along with other blood thinning meds to maintain a safe pregnancy.  It is fine.
  • I was on 81 mg aspirin while TTC and throughout my pregnancy for a clotting disorder. It is technically speaking "safe" for pregnancy, and is often RX for certain conditions relating to IF and RPL.

I would run it by the OB rather than your regular doctor (I am assuming the MD in the subject was not an OB?). They generally suggest Tylenol for pregnant women, but perhaps for migraines it's a different story.

  • As long as you check the lot number of any Tylenol you take and compare it to the recalled ones, that shouldn't be an issue. The only reason my doctor recommended I take a baby aspirin every day is due to an autoimmune disorder I have. Otherwise, it would be Tylenol only.
