Hi everyone. I'm new to the board, but not new to infertility. We've been at this for several years. Went through three failed clomid cycles and moved onto IVF.
I'm on my 9th day of stims today (Bravelle 450 iu; Menopur 150iu). This morning's ultrasound showed two mature follicles, about three at 12 mm and another three or so around 10-11. The doctor canceled saying we'd have only a 10% chance of success.
I am SO sad. We've been doing shots for over three weeks now and it ends with an IUI? Plus, the nurse said they'll start me on PIO shots after the IUI. Seems unnecessary to me, not to mention just more pain to deal with.
I just want to scream -- or cry -- or scream and cry Needed to vent, so thanks for reading.
Re: IVF #1 canceled and converted to IUI :(

2 more years of failed IF treatments and a failed adoption TTC #3
TTC Journey Over~ Not By Choice
Hi Mrs.Lisa. Thanks for your kind words.
We're some of the lucky ones with unexplained infertility. The HSG went great -- my tubes are patent. The hysteroscopy showed a totally normal uterus. My DH is perfect. I have for some time strongly suspected endometriosis, but for several reasons neither my Ob/Gyn nor my RE wanted to do a diagnostic lap. So, if you ask me, I have endo, but I don't know for sure.
I'm 35 years old and my numbers aren't terrific. I'm borderline on almost everything. I have 12 antrals, a 3 day FSH of 11.2 and AMH of 0.92. I realize these numbers fluctuate, but still, they certainly aren't ideal.

Hi Mrkyrain, I'm sorry you know what this feels like. A hug for you.
They didn't really tell me what was wrong other than, I didn't respond the way they thought I would. But I don't know what they were expecting either. With only 12 antral follicles and borderline FSH and AMH, I'm never going to produce a ton of follicles. So I really thought I hadn't done so badly. I was shocked when they called me this morning and canceled.
Why were you canceled? And after the cancellation, did your RE adjust your protocol?

I'm so sorry, I know exactly how you feel. I was canceled 10 days ago. I also only had 2 maybe 3 mature and the rest were around 13. I just didn't respond to the meds the way they had hoped. IUI wasn't really an option for us as we have MFI issues and would probably only have a few thousand post wash. So we just tried the old fashioned way.
Big hugs!

Thanks everyone :-)
I'm sorry to hear that so many of your have similar stories, though I understand that's the ugly truth of this process.
For those of you who have recently covered to IUI, I wish you the very best! If this isn't our month, then let's rally our bodies and spirits and get back to it!
You really have to give yourself over to this process. It's out of our hands, though we all seem so quick to wonder what we might have done differently. For now, I'm continuing to trust in my RE. After this day of feeling down, we'll choose to think of IVF #1 as a dress rehearsal :-)
Thanks again. I've been all alone in this (with the tremendous exception of my DH of course) because we're not sharing this with our families and friends. It feels so nice to talk to women who are in the trenches, so to speak. Hugs to all of you.

And kyna, good luck to you with the old fashioned way! There's hope every month, right?! :-)
Trish, thanks for your encouragement.
Everyone's kindness has meant a great deal to me today.

I am so sorry, the same thing happend on my first IVF attempt. It is so disappointing, I kept trying to look at it like at least with the IUI there was still a chance even though IVF has always been our main option with MFI. I hope that you still get your bfp! If not and you decide to try IVF again thy will know much more about how to treat you. I needed higher doses of meds and the second time around I had 27 eggs retrieved. Good luck and tons of hugs!
You have every right in the world to scream AND to cry...huge (((hugs))). This is such awful, upsetting news. I hope that IUI does the trick and proves your RE very wrong.
Also, I would totally push back on the PIO if you aren't comfortable. Couldn't they just up your suppository dose instead?
Two C/P and Lots of Tests

IUIs #1-5, January 2011 - June 2011 = BFN

Brenda, thanks for the hugs :-) I'm going to start over tomorrow with a fresh perspective. We fully intend on starting again next month. I'm worried because I was on the highest dose of Bravelle possible and 150 iu of Menopur, too. I hope the RE has a better clue of what to do next. Fingers crossed.
Pennylane, thanks for your sweet words, too. I'm going to ask about the PIO. It just seems like a lot of pain I'd rather pass on unless the RE strongly advises that I take it. Not sure about the suppositories. Honestly, I have two huge boxes of medications, and I only noticed one suppository in there. Your suggestion was a good one -- I'll be sure to inquire on Tuesday.

Well, mine was canceled because I only had two very large follicles and nothing else. My E2 was also low. They said that I had a better chance with IUI. However, this was not the case for you. Twelve is plenty. I am wondering if they weren't growing or something. Best of luck with the IUI. You never know.

Hi there,
I am stimming right now and very afraid of not making it to ER. I feel your pain. Looking at your numbers, you look pretty DOR to me. I would inquire on the estrogen priming protocol which is for poor responders(as far as follicles being too small, you had a decent # of small ones). I think Lupron might have suppressed you too much. Also, were you on any gonal-F or follistim? I thought bravelle and menpour were the same thing. I could be wrong on that. GL hun!
