We're going to BIL's this afternoon for a party. I got a FB invite that said "We are having a get together at our house to celebrate summer and the belated birthdays of B & D." D is DH's brother, B is D's son who is 24. Both birthdays were in June.

 

DH just got off the phone with B and apparently the party isn't for D & B. It's for B & T, the girl he is dating!!! Her birthday was like 2 days ago and they don't want her to know that the party is half for her. WTF? SIL FB invited DH's whole family, half of whom have never met this girl and are totally unaware that the party is half in her honor, not their brother's. Am I the only one who sees a problem?

How odd? And anybody who brings gifts will bring two, neither for T... that will feel nice I am sure. Happy Birthday indeed...

That's what I just explained to DH. SIL should have called people if she was trying to not have this girl find out. Not slap it on FB with someone else's name and not tell anyone.

That's strange.  It reminds me of this time in college that some friends had a party for this christian group dh and I were a part of.  It was actually a surprise engagement party for some friends in the group but no one at the party knew about the engagement thing until it happened.  It was really weird especially because not everyone knew them.

I'm having trouble processing your husband having a 24yo nephew. And yeah, someone is confused about the surprise party concept. Surprise for honoree, not the guests. I probably would back out.
