My ds is 5 weeks now!  BD and I tried to work things out the past month but it sadly just didnt work.  Maybe because he only came to see us an hour every 3 days.  Not nearly enough to rebuild a relationship, much less family.  So my question is I forgot what my lawyer told me I needed info wise to file for child support. I would like to start the process Monday. His name is on the BC and he signed the acknowledgment of paternity, do you ladies know the info I will need?  Also my lawyer said I should wait for him to file for visitation... is this a good idea or does it make a difference? BTW I am in TX!!

You'll need you ex's address and phone number, and his employment info if he has any. Your lawyer was right about not filing for visitation. Just wait for him to do that, if he ever does. As long as you're getting the child support worked out.

your state government's website should have info for you & the forms since you don't need a lawyer for the paperwork. each state is different so laws in one sate might not apply elsewhere. where i live on the paternity form there is a box to check off for starting custody & child support proceedings. the information asked on the form i have was name, address, where he works, DOB, SSN etc. basically everything to verify which john doe he is. since you said that he signed the paternity forms then the court house should have his information too & you would be referencing those forms too. I would also look into the laws because if you DO NOT have a visitation/custody arrangement in place with the court system, many times a verbal agreement wont hold up, ie you agree to let him take the kid to his parents down the street and 2+ weeks later he didnt give the kid back & there isnt anything the police can do since the paternity paperwork is already in place.
