WDYT about this: girls are chess, boys are checkers

I was listening to a podcast and this was a quote from someone regarding raising boys vs. girls.

I only have a girl, so I don't have personal experience with my own boy, but I have MUCH younger brothers and it seems to be true to me.

With boys you have to just stay ahead of them physically and there isn't as much mental play back and forth, whereas with girls (my girl at least) she EXHAUSTS me mentally and I feel as though I prepare a lot more as far as my next move than I did when helping out with my brothers :)

Thought it was interesting!

Re: WDYT about this: girls are chess, boys are checkers

  • I have two boys. The first is the most complicated game of chess I could possibly imagine. The second is straight up checkers, on speed.
  • eh. it's cute to put boys & girls into neat little compartments, but hardly ever is it so black and white.  My son mentaly drains me pretty much daily AND I have to stay one step ahead of him physically too.

As a mom of a boy, I actually find that to be slightly offensive.  Why do we have to put our kids into little boxes all the time.

This. I don't have a daughter, so I don't know how complex they are, but its kind of off-putting to hear it implied that my boy is simple because he's a boy.  I know some little girls who are totally "checkers" & some boys (like mine) who are a pretty complicated "chess" game.

  • I didn't get a chance to get back on and respond last week, but wanted to say that I definitely don't think the quote applies in every case but that it seems like the stereotype is that girls are more headcases and boys are more physical basketcases.

Def didn't mean for it to be offensive- or to say that boys were not as intelligent, etc.
