I tried icing the site first and slowly releasing the meds. All three shots so far have burned like crazy.
Am I just being a baby and need to toughen up? Or do any of you have some secrets for me?
TIA!

The burn is from the chemical interacting with your body, not from the needle. Icing only helps with the pain from the needle.
There's no way to stop it from burning. I wouldn't slow down the injection (I would think that might draw it out)- just go at a reasonable pace and try not to think about it

I like to dig my nails into my own arm so I concentrate on that pain instead of the burn from the shot! Good luck - Menopur is a b!tch. I usually inject 3 vials at a time and it's the worst!
Me: 31, Dx: Hypothalamic Amenorrhea, Elevated AMH of 18

Wow, I'm not at the Menopur stage yet but now I'm scared, lol. The lupron shot hurts really bad if I don't ice the area. Does anyone else have success letting it sit for 15 minuted before injecting it?

I'm so glad you asked this. I did my first 150 iui last night, and I kept wondering if I did something wrong because it burned so bad.

Ditto PPs. It just burns like snot. I iced it for 10-15 minutes so I wouldn't feel the needle, but that didn't keep me from feeling the medication. I did find that rubbing the area after the shot kept the burning from continuing too long and leaving a little hot lump the day after, which is what I got when I didn't rub it.
TTC since 11/09
Two C/P and Lots of Tests
Me = LPD + cancer survivor, DH = low count and morphology
IUIs #1-5, January 2011 - June 2011 = BFN

I just finished 9 days of Bravelle 450 iu and Menopur 150 iu. They both were horrible!! I was really shocked by how much it hurt (describing it as stinging and burning truly doesn't do it justice).
I found some relief in icing. I put a lot of ice in a gallon size ziplock and put a little water in, too. I iced for about 15-20 minutes. For me, it helped with more than just the discomfort of the needle. It cut down somewhat on the pain from the medication itself. I also found that taking a deep breath in and then breathing out during the injection helped --- oh, and grabbing onto something really hard felt better, too. Good luck!

i am sorry...for me, it just never got easier...people said to do it slowly but i found doing it faster made the burn last a little less time!
i think for me the menopur shots were the worst part of my IVF cycle...it really just burns like a mo-fo...u aren't being a baby at all!!!
i just took a deep breath and went ow ow ow ow...and then it was done...GL!

The longer I iced, the less it burned for me. Leave the ice on there for 1 minute or 2 to try and really numb the area.
