I had my first appt today. I had an ultrasound, and they only saw the sac. I'm supposed to be 7 weeks today, and he said by now, they should be seeing something inside. He said we'd wait 2 weeks and get another ultrasound, and another blood test. It's either too early to see (based off my ovulation date), a m/c, or a blighted ovum.
Can I just tell you guys how absolutely scared out of my mind I am? I know I should have hope that everything's going to be fine (that's what MH has been saying), but I'm just not getting my hopes up. Ugh, this wait is not going to be fun.
Re: First Appt
Hi, I just wanted to give you a little hope and encouragement! My sister-in-law was pregnant and went in for her first appt. where they did an internal ultrasound. They couldn't find the baby at this time. They gave her a horrible scare and told her that miscarriage was very common at that early stage. And then she went back in a week later or so, and they were able to see the baby.
With my last pregnancy I went with midwife care, and they do not perform ultrasounds, so we only went for our first ultrasound at 18 weeks to find out the gender. I really like this because when you are so early along, like at 7 weeks, the baby is so minute that it can be really difficult to find even on great technology. In my opinion, the doctor's should not be performing the ultrasounds that early because all they really do is put unnecessary fear and worry in the mother's mind.
I'm pregnant again now, and will be going in for my first midwife appt when I am 11 weeks. At that appt, they will be able to use the doppler to hear the heartbeat. I cannot wait to hear that sound again. I hope and pray that your baby is doing just fine. Just wanted to tell you that there's a good chance that it is.
Blessings and peace
