when did you tell with your second?

I'm trying to decide when to tell our family about number two.  I know it's a personal decision, but I'm just curious what your experiences have been.  With my first I spotted a lot and was worried I would lose the pregnancy, so we waited to tell our family until 10 weeks.  With this one I am not spotting and I am feeling great, but I am nervous about family reactions.  I think they are going to be surprised we are expecting, since DS is not even one yet.  DS will be one in September and I don't want to take away from the excitement of his birthday, but I also don't want to wait forever to tell people.  For some reason I think they may react better if he's already one, but that's probably just silly.  Anyhow, I'm rambling... thoughts?

We told everyone when we got to the 2nd tri... which just so happened to be right around when each kid turned 1.  We did tell before the birthday just bc it was annoying to hide it at that point.  The no drinking wine thing always makes people suspicious.

with DS we told my family at 5 wks, his at 6 wks the day before we had our u/s. We told them to keep it a secret for a day and they were so stressed about it and wanted to tell the world...SO with DD we told my parents and sister right away, and waited until 8 wks for our u/s (new doctor) to tell his parents. It worked fine bc they live far away and DH doesnt talk to them often while he's at work on the rig. For #3 I will do the same. Once we have the u/s I feel better.

I was 10 weeks with #2. I generally like waiting until 2nd tri has begun, but we had DS wear a big brother shirt for father's day.   Plus, I had an u/s by that point and baby had a HB so the odds were good that everything would be ok.

I found out on a Saturday and told my parents on Sunday. I had bloodwork done Monday, saw my OB Tuesday, and had an u/s Wednesday (which revealed 7 week old triplets). We started telling people pretty soon because we had so many crazy emotions at the time. At that point I was preparing for a likely very early delivery, life with preemies, and parenting 4 under 15 months. We thought telling people right away would give us time to build a support system and get a plan for survival. We later had to explain our losses, but I don't regret how we handled things.

We told our family immediately with #2.  I understand what you mean about being worried about reactions - my family was floored and could not hide their concern (DD1 was 4.5 months old when I got my BFP).  We didn't tell friends until 15 or so weeks, though, mostly because I was kind of embarrassed.  This time we haven't told anyone yet.  I think we will wait until 12 weeks or so to tell family - again, I don't think their reactions will be altogether positive.

We got pg before this baby and told everyone right away and lost the baby. This time around, I didn't want to go through that again with everyone, so we didn't tell until we had 3 good betas under our belt.

With DD we told at 14 weeks. With this one we told at 12... I couldn't hide it anymore. Both times my mom knew within a few days/hours of my BFP.

We told families the day after BFP which was about 6 weeks. I was feeling lots of emotions and felt very isolated so it was best to get it out there. If anything happened with the pregnancy, we would have told families that too so it didn't matter.

We told immediately family about #2 at easter when I was about 9 weeks.  We had just had our third ultrasound and things were looking healthy.  It was the only time we were going to to see them in person for a few months so we found it appropriate.

We told our friends and extended family after the NT scan - about 13 weeks.

6 weeks wouldn't be a time I personally would tell (I have had two miscarriages much later than that) but it is a decision you need to make yourself .

We told immediate family at about 4 wks, around Christmas time. But I wait to tell coworkers until wk 13. FB didn't get a post until 21 wks when we found out we were having a girl. I hesitated to tell people in general because my 1st pregnancy was so difficult and I had to be out on mat leave starting wk 25 and I didn't want to have to explain if anything happened to the baby early in the 1st tri.

8 weeks & then for the general public/friends we waited until 15 weeks.

We told our parents we were expecting with our first when I was 6 weeks. With our second child I was already showing at almost 5 months... my husband thought it would be funny... but I couldnt hide my tummy much longer. haha.
