So really, what is the difference between a midwife and an OB? My dr. was running late for my appt the other day so I chose to just meet with the midwife and reschedule. But I REALLY liked her. Anybody know what the difference is? I know midwives dont do c-sections... but thats all I know
Re: midwife vs. OB
There are about 3 posts about this same topic in the last week or so if you scroll through.
MWs: more personal, holistic approach, take their time with you; for the most part, aren't big "pushers" of medical intervention at all
OBs: less personal, more medical approach to pregnancy and delivery
However, it's not just C-sections that OBs due - it's usually most serious medical emergencies that they'll be needed for.
If you like her, and aren't a high risk pregnancy (they don't normally handle those), then why not stay with her? She will have access to an OB if anything serious comes up during delivery or beforehand (if it's beforehand, she may transfer you over to an OB's care).
Congrats - you may have stumbled into someone great!
It should be noted that there are several types of midwives! Here are their definitions: https://www.americanpregnancy.org/labornbirth/midwives.html I had a CNM last time and a CPM this time. CNM usually deliver in a hospital they're associated with, where CPMs usually deliver at a birth center or at your home (of course there are exceptions).
