I used Mindy Robertson at Add A Little Love. She was rec'ed by my pedi. She was very patient and kind - of course LO latched perfectly while she was there. :-/ But she weighed the baby before and after to make sure he was getting enough, gave me some tips, and I also bought my PISA from her (significantly cheaper than @ BRU). I am not sure how far she travels b/c she is origianlly from the southside, I think, but you can check and see! It was nice just to get the extra encouragement from her, even though at the time, he latched well b/c I was a complete mess. :-)
Just saw this on her website, so not sure what areas are covered on the west side.
We are located in Southeast Texas and our service area ranges from the Galveston area up to Cypress/Tomball and surrounding communities. If you are out of this service area, let us know and we will help you find someone in your area. We are available 7 days a week and are even available most evenings. Please call for appointments between the hours of 9 AM - 6 PM.
Also - I think if you can get your pedi or doctor to "prescribe" seeing an LC, you can send off your receipt for possible insurance reimbursement. I think in the end, it wasn't worth it for us, but just a thought to check into if you want.
I met with Sandy at A Woman's Work. They've moved locations and are now near 59 and Sheppard/Greenbriar.
ETA - Women's Hospital runs a lactation support group for mom with babies 6 weeks old or less on Thursday mornings - I think it starts at 10 or 10:30. You can't do a private consult, but you can ask questions, do a weighed feeding, they'll look at your latch, and other things.
Sandy helped us. We had big issues and were totally derailed; her encouragement and knowledge got us working even after months of bottle feeding while pumping. (Keep offering, she would say. Don't pressure yourself, but if you keep offering he'll come around when he's ready. She was right.)
