Pregnant after IF

Not a great 1st u/s **updated**

We did see a sac but it's very small.  I'm 5weeks 4 days.  He expected it to be bigger but did say it could just be slow growing.  Drew another beta and now we're waiting ... well I'm waiting and crying.

**update**  Beta is 2,000!  He said that's excellent and he's very pleased.  Now we wait until next Friday.

  • I agree with pp. It's way too early to make any predictions at this point.  I've seen numerous posts on here about early ultrasounds where the growth was days to almost 2 weeks behind and everything turned out fine. Keep your chin up.  T&P.

  • Hugs. You are still early, so I hope you've just got a late implanter. When I went to my first u/s, they were worried that one twin wouldn't make it because it was measuring behind, but all is well now. Wishing you the best of luck! Please hang in there and keep us posted.

  • It really is so early! My RE won't even do an u/s until your about 7 weeks. Think, instead of all we saw was a small sac....Sweet we saw a sack!

Good Luck and your dog is so cute!

  • Often an RE won't even give an u/s until 6-7 weeks because everything is so hard to see before that.  5.4 is SO early, it's so hard to see anything at that stage, even when everything is growing perfectly.  Try to focus on there being a sac in the right location.

I understand how you're feeling, I had a panic during my 1st u/s too.  I had just had a loss so we were checking for ectopic and I had been bleeding.  It took them forever to find anything, then there really wasn't much to see.  It's hard waiting for the next appt, but there will be so much more to see by then.  Hopefully you'll even be able to see a h/b next time.

Try to keep positive, as hard as that is.  My teeny-weeny spec of a sac with a crappy beta and even crappier P4 just turned 6 mths old.  It can definitely work out.

Sending tons of luck your way.  ((hugs))

I'm scheduled for next Friday.  Why he won't do one before that I'm not sure and the worst part is it's not going to be him.  He's going to be out of town so it's going to be an ultrasound tech.  I asked them if I could do it Thursday so he would be the one to do it and they said no.  I don't want a freaking ultrasound tech to tell me bad news for crying out loud.

Kali, I didn't have my first u/s until 6w1d and only 2 betas. Every single day makes a difference in what you can see.
This is the hardest part because you just have to trust and be patient and hopeful. Hang on to that. You can't rush baby into growing.

  • Kali I am so glad you've heard back and that your RE is pleased.  :D

I know I mentioned this to you already, but my RE likes to see the beta come in at 2,000 and then schedules the first U/S for the week after.  He said otherwise there isn't much to see and can cause unnecessary fear.

I will continue to keep you in my thoughts.

  • I'm coming in late here and am too tired to read the other responses so I'm sure I'm repeating.

A beta of 2500 is the cutoff to expect to see something on u/s (you should see it by this point), 1500 is when you expect to be able to see a sac (not necessarily before).  Seeing a gestational sac, even if it seems a little small is perfect for 2000.

    Good luck!
