Our little baby is almost 6 mos old and has never been an amazing sleeper, but about 3 weeks ago she started sleeping through the night. DH and I were thrilled. However DD just finished a solid week of an AWFUL sleeping routine. For for the past week she has been fighting bedtime (even though our routine has not changed a bit), stirring a ton, waking up 2-3 times a night (staying awake for 1-2 hours each time), and getting up at 6:45 am for the day! One of the biggest problems is that she has been rolling onto her tummy in her crib, but can't roll back over. So she just rolls on her belly and whines. She is as happy as can be when she wakes throughout the night and in the morning, but is very whiny and grumpy during the day. She doesn't nap that well either HELP! I'm at a complete loss!!
Re: What can I do???
Obviously the ladies on this board don't think my methods of sleep training are "kind" but my little girl had the same problem. She'd roll on to her tummy, get stuck, and cry. When I started a combo of Ferber/CIO sleep training, she learned how to roll back on to her back on her own I guess because she knew I wasn't going to come in and flip her over.
I'd call my pediatrician if I were you though. Everyone has their own opinions on how to sleep train and what is right and kind. The only person I would really trust is the pediatrician. He/she will have the baby's health in mind first.
Thanks! I was thinking of trying the Ferber method, or a mild version of it. I think my problem is that I hear her stir and IMMEDIATELY run to see her. She is so used to having Mommy or Daddy run to her side within seconds.
I did call the pedi and they think that because she has a mild cold, she may be having a hard time staying asleep.
Thanks for the advice!
We had the same rolling problem, among other sleep issues, and after about a month (sorry--that sounds really long), finally she figured out that if she puts her head down and relaxes, she can fall asleep on her tummy! So now it seems she is a tummy sleeper, which we're ok with. We have an angelcare monitor so we know she's breathing.
Also, if she likes the swing, try putting her in her swing overnight. We've gotten through several terrible sleep nights/weeks by putting her in the swing so she won't roll.
