BCP for decreasing cysts - works or not?

The cyst that they found yesterday is about twice as big as my ovary.  The doctor said that some people take BCP for a month to help the cyst go away & that others don't.  She said that there aren't any studies that show that one method is more beneficial than the other at shrinking the cyst.  Do any of you ladies have experience with BCP decreasing cysts?

I am afraid that going on them will mess my cycle up again & I don't want to go through that again.  On the other hand, I don't want to take the chance of letting decrease on its own & having it still be there next month.  I swear I hate this!!!!

Re: BCP for decreasing cysts - works or not?

  • I had 2 big cysts back in March. They went away on their own. I have heard of BCP to reduce them. It's a risk you taking to wait it out on your own but if you have any tendency to be DOR, I'd be afraid the pill might suppress you too much and the ovaries might take a while to "re-wake up" following the pill.

  • Thanks McIrish!!!!  I haven't had any DOR problems yet, but I was thinking the same thing about the re-wake up part!

  • Hi.... my RE does the BCP thing for even the IUI cycles.....I have not had a cycle cancelled for cysts...so I guess it seems to be working for me. However I think they use the BCP for scheduling of all the patients. They like to do a mass of u/s and b/w and the inseminations on a few days.

FOr me I think it is just another med that can mess things up...I do it cause that is the policy.....
