compazine?

i have a question for any ladies who have done this before, since this is my first. my dr prescribed zofran the past couple of weeks for my nausea, but didn't seem to work at all. so today he prescribed compazine instead, but i'm nervous because its a category c and i see lots of warnings about taking it only if absolutely necessary. i've only lost 4 pounds, but it's hard to function through the day (as i'm sure a lot of u can relate!) anyone taken compazine in a previous pregnancy before? any feedback would be great. thanks!

Re: compazine?

  • I haven't heard of it, but I would be concerned as well if it was category c...even if my OB prescribed it.  Honestly my m/s was pretty non existent last time except for an occasional satisfying vomit.  This time my m/s is SO bad I want to die a little, BUT I don't have an OB yet so I haven't been able to get anything for it.  I'm not saying anyone should endure it if they don't have to, but if I were in your situation I'd probably try to stick it out for another week or two.  I believe week 9 is supposed to be the high point of m/s.  Not that it always happens that way, but I would hope that it would subside after 9 weeks.

If you can't function without medication I might ask your ob about the unisom/b6 combination.  Or discuss an option that might make you feel safer.

  • yea, i think i'm opting against it. i just called about acupuncture because i've heard that can help and it won't hurt the baby. i'm a teacher and need to get back into the swing with school starting soon, so i can't be layed up in my house the next month but i don't want to hurt my baby. pregnancy is hard!
