Just curious (meds from another country ?)

I saw a post on the other board and am now curious as to whether any of you have ever ordered your meds from Canada or overseas??  If so, what was your experience.

TTC since 3/07. IVF#1 = canceled. IVF#2 = 0% fertilization. IVF#3 = BFN. IVF#4 = c/p.
Moving forward with Adoption 2017!

Re: Just curious (meds from another country ?)

  • I have no experience, but here is an old post. I have seen on the board the caution about the diluent packaging concern, however this should be easy to get around. GL.

  • Thank you Edwina for the link!  With IVF#4 coming up, I am trying to look into all of my options.  I am a little apprehensive though so I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience here.  One the one hand, you want your meds to be as cheap as possible, and on the other, you want to make sure that you are getting what you pay for!

  • I am in Canada and I get the majority of my meds from the UK - IVFmeds.com and they have been really good to work with, stuff comes very quickly and I've never had a problem. They cannot ship needles/syringes abroad and any meds that require refrigeration are best to get in the US since there's the potential that customs can hold them up.
2 IVFs & 1 FET. Welcome home baby girl!
  • Oh, and the packaging is a bit different, I'm used to it now, but my follistim is in little glass bottles that you have to break, and I have heard that the US drugs don't come like that, but I don't think it's a big deal given the savings.

That was going to be my next question.  I read that the vials are different and was wondering how difficult it is to break it without getting glass in it or spilling/losing some of the meds.

Side bar: how are you my dear?  I have been thinking about you.

Now, I will probably do my cycle in September as opposed to next month.  I did an antagonist before - follistim, brevelle, ganirelix...the usual suspects.  I think I am doing that protocol again but I won't see my RE until mid August.

    I live in Indianapolis.

  • I probably have something like 50 unused diluent vials hanging around if you need them.

That is great to know and I would definitely like to call "dibs" on some of them for when I start my cycle. Thanks Edwina!

I have 2 boxes of Menopur.  My Re told me that I could donate to them if I wanted.  They've been in my fridge unopened for 4 months.  I need to give them to someone soon.  I just didn't know if I was going to need them.  I don't anymore.

At this point, I'm an expert, so it's not a problem at all, the first time though my RE gave me a little plastic tube thing that you can use to break them, it just snaps off the skinny top part easier. I didn't need it after three days and didn't lose any. They are really fragile but once you get the trick, it's no biggie.

I'm doing alright, hanging in there, guess we're geared up for starting injections for round 2 next week but DH isn't so sure because he's felt it's put so much stress on us - beyond frustrating given that I've been on BCP for 45 days and had my clearing u/s yesterday. It definitely has been a rough few days since we saw the geneticist but it's something at this point we need to go through so might as well sooner rather than later in my mind. How are you doing? Any updates?

I haven't done it, but a friend of mine from work got all of her meds from the UK and saved a lot of money that way.
