My DH, DD, and I just moved to an apartment 2 months ago from our home a few states away. When you walk into the building, there is a small corridor and four doors, one for each apartment. Why is it that one of my neighbors cooks with such nasty ingredients every morning at 7am, filling the corridor with the pungent odor? WHAT CAN BE DONE about it? It's not like I can ask them to be sensitive to newly preggo and stop cooking! I don't even know which of the other 3 apartments it is coming from and I am NOT about to sniff their door jams.
At least our door doesn't allow the smell in, but every time I leave the apartment I have to hold my breath, lock the door while holding DD and run from the building (about 3-4 times a day). AND because of the heat, the smell gets WORSE as the day goes on. Any ideas? Any tips for holding my breath longer? Sympathy stories?
Re: Help me! BAD NEIGHBOR who cooks...
Has your pregnancy made you more sensitive to smells? Maybe it will pass with time...
There's a man in my office who smells like open ass. He has always smelled like open ass, but it's gotten worse for me with my pregnancy. I want to douse him with water everytime he walks by.
When we lived in an apartment our downstairs neighbor used to cook the worst smelling food on the balcony. I was pregnant with my first at the time and it made me sick to smell it.
Is this a temporary living situation? If so I'd say just tough it out. There really isn't much you can do. There is one type of potted plant (I can't remember the name) that is used in smokers homes to purify the air. Maybe that would help.

I don't know about the plant, but we used dishes of white vinegar to eliminate the cigarrette smell from our house. (Not our cigarettes, the previous owners smoked everywhere)
Do you have a superintendent? A good relationship with your landlord? They can't tell people what not to cook, but maybe they can spring for a lysol air freshener for the hallway.

I walked outside this morning and was attacked with the worst smell. I woke DH and asked him to find the carcass of whatever was rotting under our porch. He investigated and said "Sorry hun, that was the chicken livers we used the other night for fishing bait." It was out there for 2 days in the 100 degree heat.
I made him to take the whole trash can and dump it in the dumpster at his work. He said right now people are outside looking for a dead animal.
you could put some of those stick on air freshener thingies up
baking soda
