I had an ultrasound (for dating purposes) at 6.5 weeks. I just received the bill and the price was $645. This seems high to me. Has anyone else seen a bill for a routine ultrasound?
all my U/S are done in office and billed globally to insurance so i have a first time appointment copay of $50 and about $600 when everything is said and done after giving birth
Thanks, mjmonkeylove. For some reason I though ALL providers (labs, ultrasounds, etc) participated in the global billing. It looks like it's just my OB's office that does - and they don't do any labs or ultrasounds in-house
I just had my first u/s yesterday and I signed a waiver that had the price listed at $695. I guess they will attempt to bill insurance ... and I really hope they pay!
Eeeek, I would also consider switching doctors. DS was huge at our 20w ultrasound so I had at least 4 more to check his growth, plus one at our first appointment. If you end up with a complication that requires multiple ultrasounds that will get expensive fast.

I do have other options. I'm looking right now into OB's nearby that do on-site ultrasounds. Apparently this isn't a new issue (it seems different ob's advertise the on-sire ultrasounds). Now I need to make sure they aren't outside providers on-site. My 1st ultrasound was in my ob office, but an outside provider.
I think (unfortunately) the price is near average. I've looked into other offices that do this on-site and, like my previous ultrasound, are billed through an outside provider at the time of service. Sadly, not part of the global billing at the time of delivery. I have a high deductible that will apparently be met real quickly with these ultrasounds, so I guess it doesn't matter. Thanks again for all of the input! And be thankful for all of your great insurance plans
I have a $20 copay for my first OB appt, then nothing else for the entire pregnancy and delivery BUT when I see my EOB, I see that the charges for ultrasounds are usually around $1300+...(PER ultrasound).
Re: Cost of 1st Ultrasound?
Thanks, I should've specified 'for those with high deductible private insurance'
I envy your insurance!

I've only had one visit there. I'm most likely going to switch.
