LOL, that movie is so old, the kids my child grows up with probably won't even know it. I teach HS and the vast majority of them have never seen Forrest Gump. But yes, I do understand the connection!!

LOL, you're probably right that kids these days aren't familiar with it. I thought maybe you were a huge Silence of the Lambs fan.

You should ask how many have seen Silence of the Lambs....or what they think of when they hear the name "Clarice"
I wouldn't use it because of the movie. Even if your daughters peers won't have seen it, her teachers and friend's parents will know the reference. And it's such a spooky reference. Every time I hear the name Clarice, I can't help but shudder. Anthony Hopkins nailed that role....

The Omen completely ruined the name Damien for me! It's such a cool name but all I picture is that creepy little kid in a suit, waving....aaaaand I think I just peed my pants.
Anthony Hopkins is a god. My dad met him and said he was a really friendly, down-to-earth guy.

So I actually thought of the little girl deer named Clarice in the Rudolph Christmas Special. I forgot about "Silence" but yes, that does trigger interesting associations!
Clara is actually my #1 name and has been for many years, even though we named our 1st DD Natalie. If this one is a girl, we will be going with Clara IF my DH agrees, and he isn't sure. But I love both Clara and Claire, although I agree Claire is more popular. It is both cute and classic though.
Just the way the name "Clarice" is spoken in that movie gives me the heeby-jeebies. Trust me - it's a classic that will live on forever. I don't think it would "fade" enough to make me like the name.
Also, I think of...

I was 4 when this movie came out. I've never seen it but still get chills when I hear the name "Clarice". I'm sure it was a beautiful name before the move ruined it. Characters in creepy movies should have horrible horrible names to avoid situations like these!

Forget about Silence of the Lambs! I love the name Clarice, and by the time your girl is 10 that movie will be 30 years old. If you like the name, don't be scared off by the connection.
Clara is a pretty name, too, as is Claire. I just feel Clarice gets a bad rap that it doesn't deserve.
Re: clara or clarice?
"What were the lambs doing, Clarice?"
"They were screaming!"
Please go with Claire.

Clara.
I don't like the way Clarice sounds.

Plus, Clara is just prettier.
Yeah, I can't read Clarice without hearing Anthony Hopkins' voice in my head.
While I don't care for any of the Claire-variations, Clara is by far the prettiest, IMO.
My grandmother's name is Clarice. I think it's beautiful and underused.
That being said I DO hear Anthony Hopkins when I think of it. That wouldn't keep me from using it though.
love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone

I love Clara. It's beautiful.
Clarice also makes me think of Silence of the Lambs. It's a classic movie so I'm not sure that reference will fade very soon.
Love Clara!
I guess I'm the only one, but Clarice reminds me of that country music video for "What Might Have Been".

This is what immediately came to mind.

I think this is a more positve name reference..
I picked Clarice I think it sounds prettier than Clara

LOL. I instantly thought of Silence of the Lambs when I saw Clarice. Stay away from the name Clarice.
I like Clara
I voted for Clara, but I noticed you are having a boy. Is this name for a future child, perhaps?
