BF'ing moms: were you always hungry around 5 months?

I'm always hungry.  Not boredhungry (I don't think) but low blood sugar starvinghungry.  She has not started solids yet.  Maybe this might mean I should start her on some?

I'm just trying to figure out if this is due to BF'ing or maybe because I'm in a bit of a mood funk.  If the latter, I need to ixnay it but if it's due to BF'ing, I won't try too hard to control it.

  • I remember the always hungry feeling ending by the time my supply stabilized, so probably 3-4 months. Could she be going through a growth spurt?

I love your new siggy pic! Your kids are beautiful!

  • I'm always starving when I'm nursing. I used to buy those big 5pm bins of pretzels from Costco and go through one in a week. I found if i kept healthier snacks easy to grab like carrot sticks and fruit and pretzels, i was less likely to grab crap like chips and candy and stuff like that. Also make sure you're eating enough protein, especially early in the day like for breakfast. That helps.

  • I know I'm just getting back into it but I'm always hungry. I eat non-stop all day long! I don't remember eating like this in the later months of BF with DD (which wasn't that long ago)

AGGIE- where did you get the big sister shirt? I can't find one anywhere!

I am still breastfeeding and still always hungry :).

I wouldn't start solids yet for that reason though.  Most babies aren't ready for solids until at least 6 months.  Exclusively breastfeeding until that point offers great protection for the baby and gives the immune system a chance to develop before pathogens might be introduced.  This website has some great info https://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/solids-when.html.

ETA: Oh and your kids are gorgeous!

  • Thanks, all. I don't remember being this hungry with the first two either. But there's a lot I don't remember.

Thanks :). All three came from Carter's. The big sister one is actually part of a pj set. She has a "real" big sister shirt but this one matched her skirt (also Carter's) so she wanted it instead. Carter's always has those shirts and the 3 piece pjs were on clearance for $7.99. Clearance was extra 20% as of Monday (not sure if it still is) and with the 25% coupon, they're less than 5 bucks! Comes with long pants and long sleeve shirt too.
