Baby Names

Baby girl middle name - Maggy?

We are down to the last few days (hopefully) before baby is born.  We are team green and I want to honour my grandma and use her middle name for this baby's middle name if it's a girl.  Her middle name is Maggy.  Yes, spelled like that.

I think I'd keep it spelled that way -not change it to Maggie- but does anyone know where the Maggy spelling comes from.  She is German so maybe that's the reasoning? Thoughts on the spelling?

Re: Baby girl middle name - Maggy?

  • I have never seen it spelled like that before, Icant imagine where it comes from.
  • Is she in good enough health for you to ask her directly?

Sadly, bad spelling is not a modern phenomenon, so there may be no reason beyond that.

I came in here all ready to tell you to spell it Maggie, but family names are family names, so I'd keep Maggy. Idk the origin, it could have none at all except your great grandparents wanted to be creative :)

Same here. I can't find an origin for the way your grandmother spelled it, so i'm not sure. I've only ever seen it spelled Maggie and that's an English name meaning Pearl.
