when did you add 3rd meal?

the handouts from my pedi, imply three meals at 6 months. I was thinking about adding in a third meal at 7 months, but I'm wondering if that's too soon? Plus I'm overwhelmed at the thought of doing a third round of solids right now since DD is still doing 3 naps (DS just dropped to 2 this week).

Re: when did you add 3rd meal?

  • We didn't start until 9 to 10 months old.  It was just too overwhelming to try and fit in meals, bottles, and naps all in one day.  Plus one of my boys hated solid foods and it was a huge struggle to try and get him to eat.   So I guess my advice would be to not push it if you aren't ready.  Now my boys are 13 months and eating great.   I don't think waiting to add that 3rd meal harmed them in any way.

  • I tired the third meal last week and it didn't go so well, they ate "lunch" but pretty much snubbed dinner and their last bottle. I'm gonna keep with 2 meals until it they seem ready for more.  GL!

  • 6 months at the pedi's request.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • Our pedi said 1 meal until 6 months, two meals at 7 months, and 3 meals at 8 months. It worked really well b/c by the time they were at 3 meals, we were down to 2 naps.
  • I plan on adding in the 3rd meal between 8-9 months.

  • We added the 3rd meal pretty quickly, by the end of 6 months, I think. I just got into a groove of solids, bottles, naps. If we were really busy one day than I skipped a meal. No big deal. I don't do that so much anymore though.

Around 7 or 7.5 months, when we dropped the 11pm dreamfeed.  We'd been doing lunch and dinner, but I added in a breakfast at that point.

  • We are doing 3 meals.  Both of my boys are taking 3 naps per day still.  We do bfast about one hour after they get up, lunch at 11 and dinner at 5.  Works out well for us.  After dinner they get ready for bed and are down for about 7.  They have started sleeping better now that we are doing 3 meals a day.

  • Mine are 21 months....they still really only eat 2 meals a day. We always offer dinner but usually they take a couple bites and say all done. They are on track for growth and milestones so I don't worry

At about eight months when it became clear that they needed more food. I wasn't very aggressive with solids though since our pedi didn't have us start solids until 6 months.

  • 6 months as well per pedi's recommendation, which was weird since they didn't want us to give them anything besides cereal prior to that and I started a little early because of constipation issues.  It was rough for awhile because my girls were taking 3 naps up to 7.5 mos and 4 bottles up to 9.5 mos, so with 3 meals, I felt like we could never get out of the house on the days I was home, luckily it was winter!

  • Our pedi said most do 3 meals by 7mos.  But, since we didn't start solids until they were 6 mos, we were behind that.  I think we were at 2 meals by 8 mos and 3 meals by 9 mos.  It was so hard for us to find the right balance b/t solid foods and getting them to still take the amt of formula they needed.   And ours were never aggressive eaters anyway, so I didn't rush it.
