Pregnant after IF

water intake

i drank a friggin' gallon of water yesterday and have been basically been drinking that much for about a month now. luckily my stomach started to cooperate, because earlier in my pregnancy all water i would drink would just sort of slosh around in my stomach and make me nauseous.

that said, the doctor at l&d yesterday told me to double my intake. i literally have no idea how i could consume 2 gallons of water a day. i constantly have a cup of water at my desk and get up to fill it the moment it's empty (at least every 45 mins). i also drink at least 24 ounces of milk a day and another 8 ounces of juice, so i'm getting lots of fluids.

do you just sit and periodically chug water? b/c sipping on it all day isn't getting me past my current intake!

Re: water intake

  • I do what you do and keep a cup of water full on my desk all day. I take water with me everywhere. It seems like you're getting plenty of fluids but then again you have two babies in there!

My nutritionist said aim for 100 ozs a day but that's all liquids not just water.  I sip all day and occasionally chug a bottle or two if I don't feel like I'm sipping enough.  I do way better during the week when I'm in the office and have a water cooler to keep refilling.  On the weekends I seem to be running around and forget to drink all the time.

  • I do about 64oz. I guess I should step it up.

  • I'm probably not as disciplined with water as I should. I drink anywhere between 48-80oz a day, some days less than that but with this heat I've been able to drink more.  I hate it though because I feel like I'm constantly in the bathroom because of all that water!

  • I literally never leave the house without a bottle of water (or two)...and that's just to get me to 64oz! I can't imagine drinking twice this amt or more. Just 64oz is a huge struggle for me most days. The first two bottles of water go down fine, but the 3rd and 4th always get me.

I start to feel nauseas like you described around the 3rd bottle. ugh. I've never been much of a fluid-drinker. Half a can of mtn dew and a bottle of water could get me through an entire day before this pregnancy. I've given up caffeine, but the water is just not appealing to me :(

    GL with your two gallons!!!

  • I drink tons of water and gatorade, but when I'm feeling dehydrated and I just can't drink more, I eat huge bowls of watermelon. It changes it up a little and is still lots of fluid.

  • I guess I'm more of a chugger.  Early on, I got a couple of those Tumblr (sp?) insulated cups, they're about 24 oz each.  I fill it up a few times a day and I guess I drink those cups fairly easily.  Makes water drinking really easy, I think,

  • Man, I wish I could drink that much!  Everytime I drink water - it comes right back up.  Ahhh - even though I'm into my 2nd tri, I'm still praying this sickness/nausea goes away.

This is kind of what I do too.  I have one of those Nalgene style bottles (Target knock off) that's about 30-32 ounces that I take with me almost everywhere and I fill it up several times a day.

Honestly, yes I wil chug about 20oz of water at a time. My job doesn't really allow me to sip on water all day so I have to chug as much as I can when I can :/ Fortunately for me I've always had to drink like this and I've always drank a lot of water.

  • I understand completely!!!!

But I have to say, I LOVE ice water!  I drink it all day and never leave without a huge container of ice water-- I think it helps that is hot as heck in the Summer because I CAN NOT get enough.

That said, having the 'amount to drink' guideline almost makes it worse for me.  I just know, I'm constantly thirsty and drink ALL DAY.

    Love to PEE 24/7, eh!!!?!?!?!
