How did you find your DCP?

Hi Ladies,

Sorry if this question gets asked a lot. I'm a teacher and am going back to work in 1 week. We're trying to find someone who does in home daycare or could possibly come to our house. So, if you like your DCP, how did you find them? Any tips or advice on finding someone you trust?

TIA

Re: How did you find your DCP?

  • I googled my state and licensed in home day care providers. It brought me to a list of all the licensed day cares in my state. I also looked on Craigslist. I found a listing on Craigslist that sounded great and checked to make sure it was on the state list as licensed and then called and went for a tour. I just wanted to make sure they were licensed with the state, which meant they would have guidelines to follow. You could always start just calling places on the list near your house and see if they have openings and go vist. If you want someone to come to your house you could always try posting on sittercity or care.com and see who responds and interview them. Good luck!

My EAP at work here put together a list of available daycares in the area that met my criteria.  That's how I found the one we ended up with.  Otherwise, recommendations from local nesties (try the CO Nest, not Bump, board -- it is very active and you'll get a lot of recs), CWs and other people I know.

  • I agree with getting online and checking out your state licensed DC. We found our provider b/c it was the same person my DH's boss and his GF used. For us, it was a very easy process. Maybe ask around to co-workers...if they are older, maybe ask if their son/daughter have children and where they take them. You can also try Care.com if you are looking for a nanny.

  • I found my favorite of our providers so far on a neighborhood listserve. She had posted that she was providing care, but I could also have posted that I was looking for care. I've also used craigslist as well as my meetup.com group, both posting my own needs and also looking to see if anyone has posted offering care.

  • I found mine on Craigslist (she is a licensed in home provider) but also researched the local child care association websites.
