Baby Names

Julia Eliza?

Eliza is my grandma's name, who is named after her grandma, so it's a very meaningful family name. DH doesn't like it as a FN, in fact the only FN we can agree on is Julia.  So, is Julia Eliza too much of a tongue twister or is it doable?

Re: Julia Eliza?

  • Both names are beautiful, though I don't love the flow, since they do have a very similar sound. That said, if it has meaning to you I wouldn't dismiss it.

  • i am biased about Julia (see siggie).  I do think that those names together are a bit of a tongue twister.  However.... how many times will people really say first and middle name together, or even know the middle name?   So I think it is fine.

    Or...

could you make Eliza ... Elizabeth?

I like both names A LOT, but I don't really like them together.  That being said,  I think using a middle name that honors someone in your life is way better then choosing a name just because is "flows."  Regardless of my liking for the pair together I think it's definitely doable.

I completely agree.  I like both names, but I don't particularly like them flow of them together.  Granted, the meaning of the names to you might make me overlook that small aspect.

  • I like the name Julia and ADORE the name Eliza. I don't love their flow-- I'm not a huge fan of FNs & MNs that both end in A-- that's the pattern my own name has and I've never thought it sounded right. However, that said, I think the family significance trumps the flow issue-- ultimately, flow matters very little.

Too bad your husband doesn't like Eliza-- it's a great name, and I love the idea of it being handed down from grandmother to granddaughter for generations.
