DH and I LOVE the name Leighton, for a girl. When you see the name, how do you pronounce it? It is supposed to be (and how we'd pronounce it) LAY-ton, but I'm afraid since its technically Leigh + ton, that people who don't know the name will say LEE-ton. (This is the only spelling I like of this name). Also, do you see this as more of a boy or girl name? I know the spelling Leyton/Layton is probably more boy.
Also, what are some middle names that would go well with Leighton? (All family names sound awful with it, and honestly...most of the family names I don't like.) So far, I only really like Leighton Elizabeth....but our last name isn't short, so she would have a HUGE name. :-). Thanks so much for your help and input!
Re: WDYT of Leighton
I think it's Lay-ton. NMS, but if you like it, go for it.
There's nothing wrong with having a long name, I mean she's not often going to be spelling out Leighton Elizabeth Yourlastname anyway.
I immediately said "lay-ton" without your prompting. I think of it more as a boy name, but its not overly masculine so I think you could use it.
Middle name is tough - especially not knowing your last name. I think Leighton Elizabeth is a bit long in itself, and if you say you have a long last name.... You might want to consider something traditionally feminine since your first name is more of a boys name.... Marie?
Last name is Phillips. It isn't TOO long, but with a long FN and MN, I think that would be a huge name. A family middle name is Lynn, but Leighton Lynn Phillips is way too many L's, I think. Thanks for the input!
It's LAY-ton and I like Leighton Lynn. I think a name has more ring to it when there's alliteration. I also like Leighton Elizabeth.
I like it and I say Lay-ton. Mn suggestions:
Leighton Jill (my mn
)

Leighton Anne
Leighton Grace
Leighton Mae
Leighton Claire
I guess I like 1 syllable mn's with it, lol
hrm.. I thought it was Lie-ton.. I'm not really sure why..
what about Leighton Eve..
I like Leighton Mae! And Leighton Claire is cute. Claire is my nieces name, though. I'm not sure I want to name a daughter after my niece - then I'd feel like I'd *have* to honor a family member every time I have a baby, and I don't want people to feel left out.....
Same here. I actually agree that Leighton Lynn sounds nice with the alliteration, though!
Hmm. I was the first one to suggest Leighton Lynn, then was told by family members that it was too much. But now knowing I'm not COMPLETELY crazy and others like it - I think I'll keep pushing it. Thanks!
True. Another one came to mind, Leighton Kay. (A friend of mine has a daughter with a long first name and her mn is Kay which I think is cute.) I think I like Mae better though...
