Hi Ladies. This is my first time ever posting on this board. I am considered high-risk since I keep delivering my kids earlier and earlier. DD was born at 33 weeks.
I have been taking Progesterone shots since I was 16 weeks (so for 11 weeks now). I was doing perfectly fine on them up until 2 weeks ago. I started getting a pain in my right butt cheek where I got the shot. I thought maybe it was just a cramp or soreness from the shot.
Last night it was time to do the shot on my right side again. It hurt really really bad. I mean the pain last all night. Fast forward to right now at work and I can barely sit. My entire right leg is completely numb. I put a call into the doctor and have an appointment at 2:15 to get checked out.
I guess I'm just looking to see if anyone else has experienced this and what the outcome might have been. Thanks.
Re: Progesterone Side Effects
I don't have any personal experience but you may also want to cross post on the Preemie board if you don't get an answer here? I bet someone can explain?
I'm guessing you hit a nerve, but that is my uneducated guess?
Wishing you the best!!!
Hi!
I used to have PIO shots when going through cryo cycles, and this did happen to me once. When you keep shooting the muscle with the needle, supposedly it creates little knots. Chances are you hit one of the knots exactly and that's what is causing the pain. I never had numbness through my leg, but I did have numbness in the area. It did pass. Hang in there and GL at the doctor!
I've never had that bad of a reaction, but my guess is you hit a bad spot - nerve or a knot from the earlier shots. Every now and then we misjudge the placement of the shot and it welts up extra badly which sucks. I tried to move the shots around a little each time to help prevent that now. I just have DH draw a little circle around the shot location with a sharpie so it's easier to avoid. My poor butt looks like a pincushion, but oh well - just 4 shots left for me
.
Hopefully your doctor's appt goes well and your leg goes back to normal soon.
Last preg with DD#2 I had the progesterone shots and at some point in the midst of them I started having pain in my hip as well. I never went as far as the leg, but it did eventually go away.
Who is doing the shot for you? Make sure it's in the meatiest part of your hip and that they pinch a good chunk to insert it. I believe the days that I had the issues the nurse doing my shot was rushed and on those days there was always a lot of leakage form the shot area.
But being that it's gone past the hip definitely see what your doc says and I hope all is ok for you.
I've had to do progesterone shots because of doing IVF. I've been doing it for 12 weeks now.
Your bottom does and will get sore and lumpy. Like pp said, you may be hitting areas where you've given the shot before (scar tissue). Also, are you doing it in the right location? I know it seems like a silly question but in the beginning DH was giving me the shots in wrong area on my bottom. He was probably hitting my sciatic nerve. I showed the dr. the spots where DH was giving it to me (I could hardly sit down on my butt without horrible pain) and he said I was probably hitting the sciatic nerve.
The shots are much better now. Still sore and lumpy, but I can sit on my bottom and have my bottom touched without jumping in pain. GL!!!
