3rd Trimester

Swollen Lymph Nodes?

Has anyone ever experienced this (or heard of this as pregnancy-related)?  I already have a doctor's appt lined with with my GP for next week.  I'm out of town, which is increasing my anxiety about it.  Basically two days ago I noticed a bump on my armpit.  It doesn't hurt, it doesn't feel hard, it's maybe the diameter of a quarter and raised just a bit.  It arrived quickly (I shave almost every day, so I think I would have noticed if it came on slowly?).

Anyway, I am not asking for a diagnosis or medical advice, but rather if anyone has experienced or heard of such a thing being pregnancy related. I'm 31 weeks along and have been so very blessed with an easy pregnancy that anxiety (of this magnitude) is unusual for me. It doesn't help that a woman I've been working closely with for the last week was diagnosed with pneumonia over the weekend ... I'm a little freaked out!

Re: Swollen Lymph Nodes?

  • Sometimes it just means you were 'exposed' to something and your body is doing its job. Even a very mild infection can raise them. There are also more serious things, but, try not to worry about that! Can you get to an urgent care sooner?

  • I could probably get to an urgent care tomorrow night. I am considering paging my GP tomorrow to ask if she thinks I should go - maybe there are tests that she would run automatically that they can do now so my appt with her is more useful? I think I'll probably call her tomorrow to ask. I'm working hard to not freak out.  Hoping it is something disgusting like a clogged sweat gland or some random thing.  Statistically that is far more likely that the terrifying alternatives. Thanks for responding, apparently this isn't a common thing like I was hoping Indifferent

  • Similar thing happened to me. At 36 weeks I noticed a lump on my back, between my shoulder blade and neck. It definitely alarmed me because I've never gotten anything like that before. DH said that it was probably either a swollen lymph node or maybe a stress knot. I was going to bring it up at my next OB appointment but it went away within a few days. I say if it doesn't go away than bring it up at your next appointment!
  • I have what sounds like the same thing-- new lump in armpit. Mine is a bit bigger than what you described, not hard but not soft either. Not painful.

I got in with my GP right away and she didn't seem TOO concerned, but she's sending me for an u/s and bloodwork just to be safe. She seemed to think it was either breast tissue or a swollen lymph node. Hopefully it's something minor like that and yours is too! I understand being freaked but am trying to remain positive.

It is comforting to hear from similar experiences, thanks for sharing!
