Starting BCP - question

The instructions say to start a new pack on the Sunday after my period begins. Last night it started, but it was a week early (strange for me) and was brown and not red. I wanted to make sure it was really going to be a period and not spotting, so I waited. Today confirmed it's AF.

Do you see any reason why I couldn't start the BCP tonight instead of waiting another week? I am taking them for heavy periods and not BC reasons. (I'm single right now.) I mean . . . my body doesn't know what day of the week it is. Why does it have to be a Sunday? Just because they are labeled in the package? Because of PG risks?

And if you think it's fine to start tonight, would you start the new pack next month on the Sunday instead of Monday?

Re: Starting BCP - question

  • You're right. Your body doesn't know what day it is. You could wait another week and start the next sunday or start it whenever you want. The only reason I would start on a sunday is usually BCP's are labled to start on a sunday and if your like me, you don't want to get confused. If your not having sex and don't have to worry about getting PG, then start whenever you want.

  • There's no reason not to start them tonight. I would imagine you could either double up as though yesterday was a missed pill or just be on a Monday week start instead of Sunday.
