Straw sippy

I bought two playtex straw cups. Someone said something in a post I read before I bought them about taking a valve out.  Can anyone clue me in to what that's about?

It's the one with the soft straw - "first lil' gripper".  Did I get the right one?

    You can't take the valve out of the straw ones.  The lil' gripper is the one you can squeeze so the liquid comes up thee straw.
