Baby Showers

Amazon Registeries...

I've been hearing mixed reviews on what benefits there are to registering with Amazon. I've read what the actual site says but still can't find much to clarify completely.

So...what's true and what's not?

#1-I've heard I can go to another store and register then add that registry to Amazon. I haven't registered anywhere yet. But, for example, if I register at Baby Depot or BRU will those registeries coinside?

#2-I've heard free shipping for everything on the registry. Is that just if I buy, or shower guests too?

Re: Amazon Registeries...

  • 1 - You can't add other REGISTRIES to your Amazon registry. You can add other ITEMS from other stores online to your Amazon registry. It does not automatically sync your registries from other stores or anything like that.

2 - I've never heard this, no. But just like all their regular things, shipping is free for eligible items/purchases over $25.

  • PS For me the benefit of registering with Amazon is that their prices are always lower, they offer excellent service, and they have a practically unlimited selection.

  • Amazon has some nice perks:

    1. Easily organized list that's easy for you to update ( you can also indicate which items have already been received)

    2. Universal registry button allows you to add items from other websites, but as PP said, there's no way to sync your registry to any other store.

    3. People can buy Amazon registry items from whichever store they wish and then "reserve" the item on your registry. You can tell who bought you which items via "thank you list"

    4. You get a 10% off completion coupon on all remaining items sold through "amazon.com" directly (no 3rd party sites)

    5. Items sold through Amazon baby store qualify for 365 day return

    6. Free standard shipping when anyone orders $25 or more on amazon.com purchases.  No sales tax collection for most states.

    7.  Great selection of products

    Cons:

    1. Some people don't like online shopping.  People don't assume you have an Amazon registry, unlike BRU.

    2. Prices and availability fluctuate daily: if an item is out of stock, the next 3rd party seller will be listed in availability, sometimes with much higher prices, added shipping and tax.

    3.  In general, prices tend to be lower than base retail price at BRU and BBB, but not as good as when stores have sales, clearance or give you coupons.

  • All of what pp said is true.

I set up an Amazon registry (in addition to an in store registry) because I thought younger people would prefer to shop online. The thing I forgot was that most people shop the week or day of the shower and an online registry doesn't really give them that option.

So true! I've never thought of that.

Thank you! This clears a lot up. I'm not sure if I'll go ahead with it or not. Like the other post, most people I know buy the week of, so that's probably more of an in store thing. And I don't see Amazon offering much better benefits than local stores. Actually, most I'm looking at in other stores Amazon doesn't even offer. It might be a great option if I had more friends that didn't wait til the last minute and were obsessed with online shopping. And it might be nice to register just for myself to get a few things with the 10 % off that I don't get through showers and such!

  • Amazon doesn't import already existing store registries but if that's what you want to do I'd recommend using www.myregistry.com. I started a Target registry in-store and then discovered MyRegistry and it let me sync the registries so they're all together on MyRegistry.com. It's also a universal gift registry so you can add items from any store in the world. Perfect for me because I love boutiques and small local stores. Good luck!
