My family goes camping every August (right around the corner!)
and I have no idea if I can do it w LO.
Its 7 days, great lake side location the camp site has bathrooms a little ways off but thats it.
I can pump, that's not an issue. But I feel almost like we'd have to move.
I can never just 'get up and go' (kudos to the mom who can)
She has to have enough bottles, I have to have pumped recently, clothes packed, entertainment, back up clothes, blankets, flares, you know the whole nine ...
Would you go ?
Re: Camping ...?
My D is about 3 weeks younger than yours, and we've been camping 3 times now. Do you want to go? If so, you can totally make it work. If no, then I'd just say no. My advice, 1) plan well and pack early, 2) don't expect to do much while you're there and let other people do everything they can.
(I don't pump, so can't say from experience what that's going to be like. It might require a little flexibility in schedule or your cleaning/sterilizing standards, but if you really want to go, I would still work something out.)
If it wasn't so bloody hot we'd go. Take the dog and DS and pop a tent. I have no problems nursing in front of anyone I know though so pumping wouldn't be an issue, nor would bottles. If you want to go, go. If not, I wouldn't worry about it. The weather will likely be too warm for good sleep anyway.
Yes!!!
We signed on for 3 days (maybe 4 if everything goes well)
cavemen did it .. so can I !!
Yup, I'd go. We went with DD when she was 10 weeks and are going again in August. We have a pop-up camper, so we're off the ground and had space to stand up, but no water or electric or anything. DD did fine the first time, but we were thankful that my family was there to help. We brought the stroller and mosquito netting and kept her covered at night. She didn't get bitten at all and slept well in her PnP. We did her nighttime routine per usual - substituting a wipe-down with a damp washcloth for a bath.
Definitely just bring extras of everything and sanitizing wipes for everyone's dirty hands. You can always boil water to clean pacifiers/nipples if you need to. I brought my double electric and pumped in the car in the mornings - stored the milk in a cooler and gave it to her in a bottle later in the day after warming it in a pot of warm water. The stroller was key for naps, and the carrier was key for our day-trips.
If you don't want to go and don't think you'll enjoy it, don't go. You have to be laid back and anticipate a good time to make it enjoyable...if you anticipate it being too stressful, it will be stressful and you shouldn't bother, IMO. GL with whatever you decide!
