Trouble TTC

IUI #1 = Didn't even have to test

So IUI #1 = BFN.  I didn't even have to test because testing day was supposed to be this Thursday, but I started spotting today (11dpiui) on our anniversary! Ugh - happy anniversary to us stupid IF.  This officially puts us at the 1.5 year mark.

We will stick with the same protocol next cycle because the RE sticks with the same plan for 2-3 months before moving on to a new plan.

Question: Does anyone else spot before AF?  I usually spot 2-8 days before my period.  I think I'm starting to level out though because for the past few months its only been 2-3 days, but I'm wondering if the spotting has anything to do with nothing working.  Is that possible?  Any thoughts/suggestions?  I'm going to discuss it with my RE.

Re: IUI #1 = Didn't even have to test

  • Oh honey, I'm so sorry! Not only is it sucky that you got a BFN on your anniversary but now you have AF and it's gonna make your night a lot less pleasant. Happy Anniversary and GL next cycle!  You know, some people spot when KU though so maybe just maybe you still have hope?

  • A low progesterone level can cause spotting before AF. Does your RE have you on prog supps after the IUI?

Sorry about the BFN :(  I hope IUI #2 is it!

Are you taking progesterone/has it been brought up before?

  • I'm so sorry it didn't work.  I usually spot a day before AF shows up.  I'd be concerned enough to mention it to the doc if it's lasting more like a week.

No he doesn't have me on prog supps.  I'm definitely going to ask him about it when I call to set up this next cycle though.

  • I'm so sorry - it sucks and I know how you feel.   I would bring up the spotting with your RE - mine wasn't concerned when I told him I spot for 2-3 days before my period.   But on Clomid/Femara my lutel phase was around 14-16days.

  • Sorry to hear that! I spot for a very short time, less than a day usually before my period really starts. I would say talk to your RE, but until then enjoy your anniversary! Don't let this get you down! GL!

  • First of all, I am sooooo bummed about your BFNSad I hope that #2 does the trick!

I spot for between 3-5 days on nonmedicated cycles. On clomid I only spot for a few hours. I have mentioned it often to my RE who always checks to make sure that it doesn't happen during treatments, but that's about it.

I would definitely bring it up.

    Good luck hun!

  • I definitely know how you feel. I had the exact same thing happen to me last week. I did have some spotting before I started, and they thought it might be irritation from the suppositories since it was brownish rather than red. They also thought it might be implantation blood as well, and they said no need to worry about it until it was full flow or the color changed to a more red color than brown. As long as it is just spotting, I was supposed to still go in for the testing. I have had some spotting before, and I asked about it. My obgyn said there was nothing wrong with it, and it is just the way some people are.

I'm so sorry about IUI #1.  I think I'll be right there with you any day now.  Good luck with #2 though!!

And to answer your question, I don't usually spot before AF.

  • I'm sorry about the BFN, especially on your anniversary!  IF sucks, but don't let it ruin your celebration.

I always spot for about a week before my period, too.  My OB/Gyn said it could mean nothing or it could mean low progesterone.  It wasn't until my RE tested my progesterone levels at 7DPO that I found out I have a progesterone deficiency, so now I take progesterone supps post-ovulation or post-IUI.  Definitely discuss with your RE.

  • Happy anniversary! It's mine too :) I'm so sorry you had to get a BFN today of all days. I really hope IUI #2 does the trick. Also, I'd talk to your doctor about the spotting. It might be nothing, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt to ask.

  • I am so sorry about your BFN!  IF really sucks!!!  As for the spotting, I never use to spot until I started on clomid.  If you usually spot, I would think that it is normal but I would talk to your RE about it next time you see him/her.  GL next cycle!  I hope it brings you your BFP!

  • Sorry to hear your bad news. I spot for 5-8 days before my period comes. I told my RE and he wasn't overly concerned.

Definitely talk to your RE about it.

  • I'm sorry about the BFN. I hope it's okay if I reply, but I just wanted to share that I have always had spotting from about 6dpo on, and when I asked my RE about it, he never seemed concerned about it. I think as long as your progesterone levels are okay when they check them, then you're probably just one of those gals who spots innocuously.

It's absolutely fine that you did reply - I'm glad you did! Thanks for sharing your experience - it makes me feel better and gives me some hope.  Yea - everytime they have check my prog. levels they have been where they needed to be or higher!
