High-Risk Pregnancy

Those w/ a short cervix. ?

My dr told me at 34 weeks your cervical length is no longer an indicator for PTL.  My cervix got shorter last week but I am 7 days away from 34 weeks.  So what does that mean?  Does that mean I will be taken off BR?  They already told me they will no longer check it.  I'm talking to my dr today but I just wanted to know if anyone else was in a similar situation and what your dr said.

Also, I'm not dilated at all but it has started to funnel a bit.

TIA!

I have a 9 month old, but was on bed rest for several months due to IC. They don't check your cervical length after 34 weeks, because the cervix starts to naturally thin or shorten during this time in preparation for labor, and also though you are still early, the survival rate of your lo is high. I had less than .7 mm of cervix with dialation to 1 for several weeks, and had to end up being induced at 38 weeks. So, I say just take it easy, and ride these last couple of weeks out.

Did they take you off BR after 34 weeks?

No, I had to wait until 36 weeks to be off bedrest officially, and I was induced at 38 weeks due to GD.

  • The peri said they wont take me off BR until 37 weeks because they dont want the baby to come before then.

  • I don't think I'll get cervical checks after 34w if I make it that far, but I'm assuming I'll be on some form of bed rest until 36-37w. I think the reasoning is that if they won't stop labor after 34w, the information you get from the check won't really change your plan of care.

  • With DD my cerclage wasn't even taken out till 37 weeks and cerclage was still checked every  week untill 37 weeks, I think different doctors have different timelines for this though.
